If you think that cloud computing is all about using services from the likes of Google, Microsoft or Amazon then you may be wrong. Here is some recent research data.
- 75% of companies expect to pursue private cloud by 2012. (Source: Gartner)
- 75% of IT executives prefer private clouds over public ones. (Source: Enterprise Management Associates)
- 55% of IT executives consider a private cloud more appealing than a public cloud. (Source: IDC)
- Through 2012, Global 1000 IT organisations will spend more money building private cloud computing services instead of offerings from public cloud computing service providers. (Source: Gartner)
Public clouds meet the needs of users with reasonably simple IT needs. However it can quickly become apparent that organisations of all sizes need a level of complexity that public clouds do not offer. More specialised hosters can cope with such complexity. However this may only be learnt after public clouds have been tried out first. Such lesson learning may be inevitable; hopefully not.

You’ll need your own server if you want to do that kind of thing. Anyway, you can’t compete with rapid share, and there are far to many sharing sites anyway. Find a niche.
